'Hitchcock,' 'Django Unchained' release trailers

By Gael Fashingbauer Cooper, NBC News

If you're the type who loves to get previews of upcoming films from the comfort of your own couch, you're in luck. Two trailers from much-awaited films -- "Hitchcock," starring Sir Anthony Hopkins as the famed "Psycho" director, and Quentin Tarantino's "Django Unchained" -- have been released.

"Hitchcock" is based on a nonfiction book about the director, and focuses in on the relationship between Hitchcock and his wife Alma. Helen Mirren, who plays Alma, shines in the trailer, showing her own frustration as her husband takes the spotlight (and works with sexy actresses) while she's all but forgotten. Juicy tidbits from "Psycho," including Hitch himself taking a butcher knife to Scarlett Johansson, who plays shower-doomed Janet Leigh, also abound.

"Hitchcock" comes out Nov. 23. If you can't get enough about the fascinating director, HBO is airing an original movie, "The Girl," about his obsession with "The Birds" star Tippi Hedren, on Oct. 20.

"Django Unchained" is obviously a Tarantino film, with all the drama and violence and rapid-fire dialogue that comes with it. Jamie Foxx plays a slave turned bounty hunter who'll do anything to rescue his sold-off wife from creepy plantation owner Leonardo DiCaprio. Christoph Waltz, who so unnerved audiences in Tarantino's "Inglourious Basterds," plays the German dentist-turned-bounty hunter who frees Django and introduces him to his new world.

Oh, and yes, that's Jonah Hill as the comic relief of the early KKK, the Regulators. Of course it is.

"Django Unchained" opens on Dec. 25, for those who like a little blood and guts with their Christmas turkey.

What movies are you looking forward to? Tell us on Facebook.

Astronauts are having an ice cream party

NASA astronaut Sunita Williams, commander of the International Space Station, holds one of the cups of Blue Bell ice cream during an interview.

By Alan Boyle

The three astronauts on the International Space Station are having ice cream for dessert tonight ? and we're not talking about that spongy "astronaut ice cream" stuff. This is the vanilla chocolate-swirl ice cream that was delivered in a research freezer aboard the SpaceX Dragon cargo ship that arrived on Wednesday.

"It's quite a treat," space station commander Sunita Williams told ABC News during a space-to-Earth interview today. "We don't usually have this type of stuff up here. It's usually thermostabilized or dehydrated [food] that we're dehydrating. So homemade ice cream is something special, and we're going to have a little party."

The Blue Bell ice cream was a late addition to the manifest for SpaceX's Dragon supply flight, which marks the first routine commercial cargo delivery under the terms of a $1.6 billion, 12-flight contract with NASA. Astronauts used the space station's arm to?bring the Dragon in for berthing?early Wednesday, and the time line went so smoothly that the hatches between the station and the visiting spacecraft were opened that same day?? a day earlier?than scheduled.

The ice cream was transferred from the Dragon's ultra-cold GLACIER research freezer?to the space station's own freezer space in preparation for tonight's dinner. Williams is sharing the treats with Japanese astronaut Aki Hoshide and Russian cosmonaut Yuri Malenchenko. NASA spokesman Rob Navias told me today that the ice cream supply amounts to a pint or two ? and it's not clear how long the spacefliers will be able to stretch that out. "It depends on how much they eat," Navias quipped.

The space station's crew has until Oct. 28 to transfer 882 pounds (400 kilograms) of supplies into the station, load it back up with about twice as much mass in Earth-bound cargo, and unberth the Dragon for its re-entry and splashdown. In place of the ice cream, the GLACIER freezer will be carrying frozen biological samples, including hundreds of frozen blood and urine samples that have been waiting for a ride back down to Earth. Since last year's retirement of the shuttle fleet, the Dragon is the only spacecraft capable of returning a significant amount of cargo from the space station.

Navias made it sound as if Williams and her crewmates should have no problem meeting their deadlines.

"As of 1 p.m. Central Time, the crew had completed 77 percent of all of the cargo transfer and had already unpacked all of that cargo moved over to the station so far," Navias told me in a follow-up email. "All in one day. Way ahead of schedule."

Sounds like somebody deserves an extra helping of ice cream.

Update for 5 p.m. ET: NASA's Space Food Hall of Fame notes that the freeze-dried confection known as astronaut ice cream actually flew in space only once, aboard Apollo 7 in 1968. "It wasn't that popular," NASA food scientist Vickie Kloeris said in 2005. The desserts offered to the space station's astronauts are typically things like chocolate brownies, plum-cherry cobbler, honey cake or berry medley. Every once in a while, though, a space shuttle shipment would include real ice cream as a special treat.

Reddit politics site bans Gawker links | Poynter.

New Statesman | Betabeat | The Awl
Moderators on Reddit?s highly trafficked politics site r/politics have banned links from Gawker Media properties. Gawker journalist Adrian Chen is reportedly planning to expose the identity of a Reddit moderator named violentacrez who organized Reddit pages ?dedicated to, respectively, sexualised pictures of under-18s and sexualised pictures of women ? frequently also under-age ? taken in public without their knowledge or consent,? Alex Hern writes.

?Reddit?s attitude to free speech is a complex one,? Hern writes:

The ability of any redditor to create any subreddit they want, without the site?s administration getting involved, is fiercely protected by the community, and that has led to subreddits focused on topics ranging from marijuana use and My-Little-Pony-themed pornography to beating women (also moderated by violentacrez) and, until yesterday, creepshots.

On r/politics, the moderators write Chen?s pursuit of violentacrez?s personal information ?is completely intolerable.?

We volunteer our time on Reddit to make it a better place for the users, and should not be harassed and threatened for that. We should all be afraid of the threat of having our personal information investigated and spread around the internet if someone disagrees with you. Reddit prides itself on having a subreddit for?everything, and no matter how much anyone may disapprove of what another user subscribes to, that is?never a reason to threaten them.

?Moderators are free to moderate their subreddits as they see fit,? Reddit GM Erik Martin wrote in an email to Betabeat reporter Jessica Roy. ?They can ban all usernames that start with the letter g if they want.?

Roy has a good primer on the ?bad blood between Gawker and Reddit.?

Choire Sicha compiles a guide to Internet privacy for Redditors who may feel society should not attempt to ?take reddit outside of reddit,? as one user puts it. One example:

Are you on a website, message board, network or other web-based purveyor of images and words? You are on the Internet, which is in public. Everything you type there can be found, through the magic of ?having eyeballs? and ?scrolling fingers.? And it can be assembled.

Saving money has always been very important for people. This has become even more important today because of the economy. Keeping the current market conditions in mind, it would be wise for everyone to have some money saved up so that they can depend on it whenever needed for tough times. However, saving money is not an easy task. Even though you may be earning a good amount of money per month, there are several different challenges that you will have to tackle each month.

Saving for different goals

Online savings calculators of all kinds can be found on the internet today. Savings are necessary for many different reasons. It would be important to first have a goal in mind when it comes to successfully saving money. Whether you want to save for your childrens education, for buying something for your home or for a new car is important so that you would know how much you will have to save. Other than knowing the exact amount of money that you need to save, you will also have to know how much time you have on hand to save that much money. For example, if you want to purchase a new car next year, then you will have to save the desired month within 12 months and this would give you a clear idea of how much money you will need to save each month.

Online savings calculators can make things easier

If you have been planning to invest or save money, then an online savings calculator can be very helpful. There are many different websites where you would be able to find online savings calculators. These calculators have different fields where you will need to put in your information. An online savings calculator will help you figure out how much time it will take for you to reach a savings goal. You can also calculate the amount that you will need to save every month in order to reach your goal within the specified time. On many websites, you will also find more advanced and complex calculators for calculating savings on car loans, mortgages or any other type of loan if you have been planning to pay off your loan early.

One of the main reasons why people today prefer to use online savings calculator is because it makes it easier for them to know the amount that they require to save. Although there are several people who simply save the money left over after the end of the month, it is always better to have a set goal in mind. Having a goal will also keep you motivated to save each month and using an online savings calculator will help you set savings goals clearly.

Guest Blogger #730, Entry #1705, October 9, 2012

Home remodeling has never been an inexpensive proposition. The materials alone can be pretty pricy, and when you throw in the cost for a contractor and his crew to get the job done, even simple upgrades can bust your budget. It is for this reason that many homeowners turn to DIY resources when looking to get rid of outdated architecture and d?cor, fix structural and cosmetic problems, and beautify their homes according to their own sense of style. Whether you want to tear down peeling wallpaper, fix a leaky faucet, or install an entirely new kitchen, complete with counters, cabinets, appliances, and fixtures, you can find guidebooks to help you out. But you might be seeking help of a more visual nature, in which case tutorial videos could be just the ticket. However, you might not have the first idea where to find the reliable resources you?re looking for. So here are just a few websites that feature home improvement videos that are sure to have you hammering and sawing like a pro in no time, saving you tons of money on your remodel.

Before you remodel ? home improvement videos may help

Image via

HGTV.

You?ve no doubt heard of Home and Garden Television. And if you?re interested in remodeling, home d?cor, and landscape design you?ve likely watched some of their many entertaining and informative programs, such as Color Splash, Curb Appeal, Design on a Dime, Devine Design, Extreme Homes, and House Hunters, just to name a few. And while you can certainly head to the network?s website to check out past episodes of your favorite shows for inspiration and advice, you might be equally excited to learn that site is rife with photo and video tutorials for DIY projects by room. You?ll get tips and tricks not only for getting down and dirty with your power tools, but also advice on d?cor after the sawdust has settled. This comprehensive approach to remodeling your home will give you the knowledge you need to complete your upgrade from start to finish.

This Old House.

This title is most often associated with host Bob Vila, who offered practical tutorials on home renovation via video for nearly thirty years (although he only hosted this particular show for ten years before moving on to other programs). But you don?t have to pull your VHS tapes out of mothballs to access the step-by-step instructions offered by the show. Thankfully, This Old House has made the leap to the online arena, offering how-to videos for upgrading every area of your home.

Watch home improvement videos to find useful DIY tips

Hometime.

Less well-known than the other two names on this list, Hometime also has its roots in television with a show that airs on PBS. Chock full of tutorial articles and videos, this website is sure to please DIY enthusiasts looking for some help. And you can also watch show highlights and check out the schedule of upcoming air dates in order to get some inspiration from the TV program that spawned this handy resource site.

While watching tutorial videos won?t necessarily make you the same caliber of carpenter, plumber, or electrician as a pro, you will get the knowledge and advice you need to move forward with all kinds of home upgrades on your own, which is a great boon for the homeowner on a budget. Verizon privacy settings: Check 'em now

Wireless carriers get their monthly take from you, but they're cashing in on you in other ways, too ? unless you tell them otherwise: Carriers sell?information about your mobile Web searches and other data?to marketing companies.?

The good news is, you can easily?opt out of providing such info. The bad news is, it's mostly up to you to do so ??no action on your part generally means they're sharing your info. To fix this,?you go online to your account, and change your privacy settings. If you haven't looked at them in awhile???or ever???today's a good day to start.

Bryan Clark on?App.net?was upset when he posted a day ago?that?"new Verizon customers like us have 30 days to opt-out from them selling your Web history and device location to marketers."

Verizon Wireless told NBC News Wednesday?that's not completely accurate.?

"Our customers can change their privacy preferences at any time," said a company spokeswoman. "The 30-day window is essentially the initial time frame so customers can read and look at their options, but again, they can change them any time through MyVerizon."

The carrier also wants customers to know that "there are several different programs" it uses for information sharing, if allowed by the subscriber, including a recent program called Precision Market Insights, announced by Verizon Oct. 1.

"Information for Precision is anonymous and aggregated, and not personally identifiable," the Verizon spokeswoman said. "Customers can opt out at any time."

A quick check of my own privacy settings with Verizon for a smartphone and a mobile hot spot (below)?showed I was letting them collect information, including location-based services info, because I had not chosen to opt out by selecting "Don't Share My CPNI" (Customer Proprietary Network Information):

"CPNI is not new," said the Verizon Wireless spokeswoman. "There are FCC rules about it (and we comply)."

Indeed, the statement by Verizon under CPNI says:

As a provider of certain telecommunications services, Verizon Wireless collects certain information that is made available to us solely by virtue of our relationship with you, such as quantity, technical configuration, type, destination, location and amount of use of the telecommunications services you purchase. This information and related billing information is known as Customer Proprietary Network Information (CPNI). The Federal Communications Commission and other regulators require the Verizon Companies to protect your CPNI.

Still, customers need to take the trouble to?find their way to opt out of sharing information. In the case of Verizon Wireless, go to?Verizon Wireless online and sign into your account. Scroll down to "I want to?..." and beneath those words you'll see options for "bill" "plan" "device" "profile." Under "profile," choose "Manage privacy settings." That's where you'll find the above check boxes to change. (Be sure to hit "Save changes" when you're done.)

"Sadly, it's just?another case of companies failing to respect the preferences of users in?an effort to undermine their privacy and monetize their data," Parker Higgins of the Electronic Frontier Foundation told NBC News. "While it's?a minor reassurance that this data appears to be anonymized and?aggregated, these companies still ought to get a meaningful opt-in from?their users."

Verizon Wireless is not alone in data collection, of course. NBC News contacted the other major carriers to find out how they handle it.

A?Sprint spokeswoman told NBC News that "much like programs of other carriers," its "research and analytics program combines anonymous Mobile Usage Information and Consumer Information to prepare business and marketing reports that we may share with others.

"We may produce or allow others to produce limited business and marketing reports with this data. Business and marketing reports contain information about groups or categories of Sprint customers.??These reports do not identify customers personally."

Customers, she said, can opt out "at any time" by signing into their Sprint account online and going to "My Choices," or by calling 855-596-2397 from their mobile devices.?

Updated?at 5:50 p.m. Wednesday: AT&T and T-Mobile, in statements to NBC News, said they?have policies similar to Verizon Wireless and Sprint: So again,?you must choose to opt out of data collection.

"Customer privacy is of the utmost importance to AT&T," said spokesman Mark A. Siegel. "That is why we provide our customers a variety of privacy options through our website, giving them the ability to exercise those options any time."

A T-Mobile spokesman referred us?to the company's website about customer privacy information, which says, in part, "We may obtain your consent in several ways, such as in writing; online, through 'click-through' agreements; orally, including through interactive voice response; or when your consent is part of this policy or the terms and conditions pursuant to which we provide you service. Your consent is sometimes implicit."

'Hitchcock,' 'Django Unchained' release trailers

To contact us Click HERE

Time Isn't Always Money

To contact us Click HERE

Time is the most important resource we all have. Time will run out and you can never get it back. Time is the one link between you and every person in the world. We all have 24 hours in 7 days a week to work with. If you work a steady job think about your day. Your job takes up a large portion of time 5 days a week. You are trading time for a set payment every month. Now if you calculate your cash flow (income after expenses) you can see how long it will take to get rich. It is extremely hard to get rich when your income is directly correlated to the energy you exert every day. One option is to work harder to get a promotion, raise, or new job. However, your expenses will probably increase when your title or paycheck improve. This makes saving very difficult. Why not create passive income?

Passive income is the secret to wealth. Passive income is money that your money earns you. Passive income doesn't require time to find its way to your wallet. When you can successfully detach your time away from a money system, you will eventually become rich. Sounds easy right? Well....not necessarily. In order to get a strong passive income stream, a lot of work has to be done to create passive income vehicles.

  • First, you have to understand that you will work extremely hard upfront without getting paid. When creating for yourself, money doesn't come until the system is created and operating. It's a lot of work to build passive income vehicles such as real estate portfolios, stock portfolios, royalty checks, or a business.
  • Second, you have to find the time to put in the work. The difficult part about this is each passive income vehicle is a pool with sharks swimming. The pros swim in these waters to survive. They aren't in it for extra money. If you don't put in the time to really understand what you are doing, you will get swallowed up. Time will be a challenge if you have a family and major responsibilities. A supportive spouse and family is essential in this area. Communicate with them and include them so they know that your work will pay off in the end. Being up front with your family will eliminate a lot of distractions and you can focus on the details of your endeavor.
  • Lastly, you must be willing to walk away. Income isn't passive until your time is not attached. Building a system to run itself requires a different plan than building a system that depends on you to run it. Have an exit plan at the start and tailor all of your actions and energy into eventually walking away with consistent income.

If you study wealthy people you will notice that they all have mastered the art of creating passive income. Even if they work a business, their businesses have passive income. If you want to be wealthy, you must generate different streams of income not dependent on your time. You can only do so much in 24 hours a day. Work hard to create money that will work harder for you. This is the definition of passive income.

Nexus phone will be LG, if you believe leaked pics

    3 hrs.

With so many rumors about Google's next Nexus smartphone,?due this month, our heads are?starting to hurt. Though there have been many conflicting guesses as to who would make the Google-branded device, a batch of leaked images now?suggests the device will be made by LG.

The folks at AndroidCentral were among those who got their hands on the images showing?a mystery device described as an LG-E960. The gadget looks like?a cross between the LG?Optimus G and the current Samsung?Galaxy Nexus.

A photo which shows the device's "About" page suggests that it is running a stock version of Android 4.1.2.?Not much is known about the device beyond that (other than what could be cobbled together from frequently contradicting rumors, of course).

The leaked images show a device which has "an all-glass front, curved design and textured back," explains AndroidCentral's Alex Dobie. The phone's battery doesn't appear to be removable nor does there seem to be a microSD card slot. (Of course, the device shown in the photos is certainly prototype hardware, so there could be plenty of changes before the final product hits shelves. )

It is likely that we won't have to wait long before we find out what's fact and what's fiction when it comes to the next Nexus phone though.?Since about a year has passed since Samsung and Google unveiled the Galaxy Nexus, it is expected that the next Nexus-branded smartphone will make an official appearance sometime this month.

Until that happens, we'll just have to stock up on aspirin to surpress all the headaches induced by conflicting and overabundant rumors.

(AP Photo/J. Scott Applewhite)

(AP) ? American companies should avoid sourcing network equipment from China's two leading technology firms because they pose a national security threat to the United States, the House Intelligence Committee warned Monday.

The panel said in a report that U.S. regulators should block mergers and acquisitions in this country by Huawei Technologies Ltd. and ZTE Corp, among the world's leading suppliers of telecommunications gear and mobile phones.

Reflecting U.S. concern over cyber-attacks traced to China, the report also recommends that U.S. government computer systems not include any components from the two firms because that could pose an espionage risk.

"China is known to be the major perpetrator of cyber-espionage, and Huawei and ZTE failed to alleviate serious concerns throughout this important investigation. American businesses should use other vendors," the committee's chairman, Rep. Mike Rogers, R-Mich, told a news conference. He said the Chinese companies could not be trusted with access to computer networks that support everything from power grids to finance systems.

The recommendations are the result of a yearlong probe, including a congressional hearing last month in which senior Chinese executives of both companies denied posing a security threat and being under Beijing's influence.

Rogers said they are clearly tied to the Chinese government, and that allowing Huawei and ZTE to provide network equipment and services in America risks confidential consumer information and undermines core national security interests. He said the committee was not concerned about the sales of handsets that make up the bulk of their U.S. businesses, but rather network infrastructure where they have made fewer inroads.

William Plummer, vice president for external affairs for Huawei, said his company, a private entity founded by a former Chinese military engineer, was being victimized because of U.S. government concerns about China's government.

"Huawei is Huawei, Huawei is not China," he told reporters. "My company should not be held hostage to someone's political agenda."

Ahead of the report's release, China's foreign ministry said investment by telecommunications companies is mutually beneficial. "We hope the U.S. will do more to benefit the interests of the two countries, not the opposite," spokesman Hong Lei said at a regular briefing in Beijing Monday.

The panel's recommendations, however, will likely hamper Huawei and ZTE's ambitions to expand their businesses in America. Their products are used in scores of countries, including in the West.

The bipartisan report could also become fodder for a presidential campaign in which the candidates have been competing in their readiness to clamp down on Chinese trade violations. Republican Mitt Romney, in particular, has made it a key point to get tougher on China by designating it a currency manipulator and fighting abuses such as intellectual property theft.

Rogers said its release had nothing to do with politics, and was motivated by the need to alert U.S. companies of the risks. The committee's top Democrat, C.A. Dutch Ruppersberger, said U.S. companies should proceed with "their eyes wide open." He cited an estimate from the U.S. Cyber Command that more than $300 billion in U.S. trade secrets was stolen last year.

The committee says it received information from industry experts and current and former Huawei employees suggesting that Huawei, in particular, may be violating U.S. laws. The allegations include immigration violations and an alleged "pattern and practice" of Huawei using pirated software in its U.S. facilities.

Rogers said that information of alleged bribery by Huawei to gain a contract in the U.S. would be forwarded Tuesday to the FBI, and he was confident it would lead to an investigation. The committee also planned to forward information on allegations of "beaconing" from Huawei equipment to China ? that is the unauthorized transfer of information from a computer network.

Huawei, founded in 1987 has grown rapidly to become the world's second largest supplier of telecommunications network gear, operating in more than 140 countries. ZTE Corp, which is partly state-owned, is the world's fourth largest mobile phone manufacturer, with 90,000 employees worldwide.

The report says the companies failed to provide responsive answers about their relationships and support by the Chinese government, and detailed information about their operations in the U.S. It says Huawei, in particular, failed to provide thorough information, including on its corporate structure, history, financial arrangements and management.

Plummer said it wasn't clear what Rogers was referring in the allegations of "beaconing." He said Huawei had provided "endless data" to the investigation, which he contended was not objective. He said its recommendations could create "market-distorting trade policy" and risk the tens of thousands of American jobs Huawei helps to support through procurement from U.S.-based suppliers that totaled $6.6 billion last year.

The recommendations "undermine competition, which undermines innovation which drives up the price of your broadband," he said.

ZTE said a Sept. 25 letter to the committee, released Monday, that China's government had never requested access to ZTE's equipment.

"Direct exclusion of one or two identifiable Chinese companies is an obvious unfair trade practice and, as a practical matter, would not provide meaningful security for US telecom infrastructure systems," the letter says.

In justifying its investigation, the committee contended that Chinese intelligence services, as well as private companies and other entities, often recruit those with direct access to corporate networks to steal trade secrets and other sensitive data.

It warned that malicious hardware or software implants in Chinese-manufactured telecommunications components and systems could allow Beijing to shut down or degrade critical national security systems in a time of a crisis.

Huawei denies being financed to undertake research and development for the Chinese military, but the committee says it has received internal Huawei documentation from former employees showing the company provides special network services to an entity alleged to be an elite cyber-warfare unit within the People's Liberation Army.

The intelligence committee recommended that the government's Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States, or CFIUS, bar mergers and acquisitions by both Huawei and ZTE. A multi-agency regulatory panel chaired by Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner, CFIUS screens foreign investment proposals for potential national security threats.

Last year, Huawei had to unwind its purchase of a U.S. computer company, 3Leaf Systems, after it failed to win CFIUS approval. Still, Huawei employs 1,700 people in the U.S., and business is expanding. U.S. revenues rose to $1.3 billion in 2011, up from $765 million in 2010.

ZTE has also enjoyed growth in its sale of mobile devices, although in recent months it has faced allegations about banned sales of U.S.-sanctioned computer equipment to Iran. The FBI is probing reports that the company obstructed a U.S. government investigation into the sales.

6:30 Meet at the Hong Kong Supermarket for a tour of traditional Vietnamese ingredients. ?If that sounds a bit odd to you (Hong Kong supermarket?Vietnamese ingredients) ? it should! ?While HK and Vietnam have little in common food-wise, here in the city, the HK Supermarket is where we go to find the best selection of Vietnamese goods.

7:00 Head over to Cong Ly for a sampling of some typical Vietnamese dishes, drinks, and desserts.

9:00 Grab a drink at nearby bar?Apoth?ke.??No relation to Vietnamese cuisine, but plenty of fun!

    Norv Turner, Bill LeavyAP

A trio of tough calls helped turn a potential win for the Chargers on Sunday night into a loss.? After the game, however, San Diego coach Norv Turner wasn?t inclined to complain about the officials.

As to the roughing the passer call on linebacker Melvin Ingram, which wiped out an interception return for a touchdown that would have put the Chargers up by 17 points late in the third quarter. Turner didn?t gripe about the flag thrown on Ingram for putting his helmet on Drew Brees? chin.

?I think that it?s pretty clear that the league has done an awful lot to make sure that quarterbacks are protected,? Turner said Monday. ?They do get in very vulnerable situations. You can?t hit a quarterback with the crown of your helmet. If you lead with the crown, you?re probably going to get penalized.?

And you?re definitely going to get fined, as Ingram soon will learn.

Far more questionable were a pair of calls that wiped out big plays on a late drive that could have tied the game and forced overtime. Even though it looked like tight end Antonio Gates didn?t commit offensive pass interference and, on the next snap, center Nick Hardwick didn?t commit holding, Turner opted to take the high road.

?I think that the preseason and the first three games of the season showed everyone who follows football how hard it is to officiate a National Football League game,? Turner said. ?And I have great respect for our officials, what they do and how hard their job is. There are some tight calls and there are some bang-bang calls.? There are some calls that go your way and there are some calls that don?t go your way. We had some that didn?t go our way. Hopefully in the future we have some that do go our way.?

Kudos to Turner for not saying what everyone else was thinking ? that the officials blew both calls. Then again, when everyone else is thinking it, there?s no reason to say it.? Especially when saying it could get a guy fined.

Still, we had to say something during the weekly Pro Football Talk segment with NBC officiating consultant Jim Daopoulos, and the late calls against the Chargers were one of the three topics that Erik Kuselias and I addressed with Jim.

Lower Electric Bills: Tips To Help You Save Money - Home

    To contact us Click HERE

Believe it or not, your local electric company actually wants you to save money. They are introducing new ways to lower electric bills with consumer incentives and smart technologies. You can be rewarded for your conservation efforts in tangible ways on your way to living green and protecting the planet, while increasing the money in your pocket.

To learn how the electric company can help you to lower electric bills and how you can help yourself lower electric bills, consider the following:

Utility programs that can lower electric bills:

Smart grids and smart meters. Around the country, power grids are becoming smarter with technological advances that prevent outages and other issues through the informed participation of consumers. Smart home meters, which are now beginning to replace the traditional, lower-tech models, incorporate sophisticated communication capabilities to help homeowners make an immediate connection between the power they're using and the price they're paying. Some utilities offer other helpful real-time communications with customers, such as phone or e-mail messaging in advance of peak use or pricing periods and in-home monitors that help track rate changes and oncoming grid overloads.

Pricing incentives. Many electrical utilities help homeowners power down throughout the grids busiest times of day with pricing plans that reward use during off-peak hours.

Rebates for energy-saving appliances and home upgrades.Your local utility likely has an extensive menu of rebates for purchases that help trim your power and green up your home. Offers apply to everything from individual appliances to bigger home improvements like roofing and insulation installations, so consult your utility to find out how you can compound the value of choices you make for your home.

Online calculators and other tools. Electrical utilities also help you steer toward smarter usage with online resources like energy savings calculators, buyers guides and tip sheets.

Do-it-yourself energy saving tips that can lower electric bills:

Know local rates. Knowledge is indeed power, and you can't brighten your energy conservation picture if you're in the dark regarding local rates and schedules. As mentioned above, most utilities guard the grid and offer savings to customers with incentivized pricing throughout the seasons, so even the most general knowledge of the ups, downs and opportunities they offer can lower electric bills.

Track your power usage. When your monthly electric bill arrives, look beyond the immediate balance to your usage history. Many utility bills include a chart or graph that illustrates the customer's consumption month-to-month and year-to-year. Use these simple tools to project use for upcoming seasons and to assess how and why you might be using more (or, hopefully, less) electricity than at the same time last year.

Power up for a change of residence. If you're shopping for a home of a different size or in a different area, it doesn't hurt to review the current owner's utility bills from the past few years. Your personal use and costs will likely vary for the same property, but you'll at least have a basic picture of dollars spent and the number of kilowatt-hours of energy consumed there on a monthly basis. To lower electric bills even further, consider possible improvements and appliances to bring with you for the move.

Life is Beautiful. So Am I.: SSIKKEK KOREAN BBQ BUFFET

    To contact us Click HERE
Aside from KDrama and fashion, food is another thing that I love about Korea. And because I?ve had my wisdom tooth extracted a few weeks ago, I thought I deserve to eat a lot nowadays. I am a fan of buffet so I told my friend we should go eat at buffet restaurant, Korean barbecue in particular. This is because I was deprived of meat for a time and my tummy had to catch up on my meat intake. Heheh.

I have tried several Korean BBQ buffet here in Singapore but I heard this one?s one of the best ? Ssikkek Korean BBQ Buffet. There are several branches in the island but I chose their Chinatown (Oriental Plaza) because that?s what I always read about in online reviews.

Ssikkek is a good place to dine at because:

    (1) The restaurant is clean and the staff is friendly (I noticed most of them are Pinoys), not to mention it wasn?t overcrowded (or probably because it was past lunch time when we went there).

ssikkek (2) If you're a fan of everything Korean, you will be entertained as the walls are adorned with KDrama posters, KPop is shown on TV (Gangnam style was playing I almost danced.. chos! hahaha!)

    (3) The price is reasonable. For S$26 each (inclusive of tax and service charge) you can have barbecue-all-you-want. There?s a wide array of meat to choose from; be it pork, beef, chicken or seafood. Aside from raw meat, there are also cooked food such as japchae (noodles), stewed pork, kimchi, rolls and of course, rice. Fruits were included in the buffet too (oranges, watermelon, etc.) and drinks were free flowing (soda, lime juice, water, etc.).

raw2 cooked (4) The ventilation is good we didn?t smell like human barbecue after eating there. Yes, the smokeless grill has something to do about it but of course, proper ventilation also contributed in it.
photo (17) In general, I enjoyed my much awaited buffet lunch in Ssikkek and I will definitely get back there for the love of meat. Smile

    ----

PS: I got to practice my talent in maximizing the use of utensils there. If you cannot eat with your bare hands and fork was nowhere to find but you wanted to east shrimps so bad? Smile with tongue out

Romney vs Obama vs debate: Was the president drugged by a right-wing doctor?

    To contact us Click HERE

Sunday, debate guru Brett O'Donnell reviewed President Obama's debate performance on Power Play with Chris Wallace. O'Donnell noted that during the debate the president seemed strangely unfocused, even oblique, and exhibited some genuinely bizarre body language. O'Donnell's trained eye noted Obama's avoidance went further than merely keeping his head down.

O'Donnell pointed out that standing behind a podium which "canted right," Obama deviated from this natural angle by physically turning his entire body to the left. Visually, Obama appeared reluctant to face the moderator, Jim Lehrer, the cameras or Mitt Romney. The result was Obama appeared to show what many would describe as a "cold shoulder" to the debate process.

While O'Donnell used soft terms such as "appeared to lack focus" or "distracted," others are suggesting perhaps President Obama was on drugs or medication. Immediately following the debate, the New York Times described Obama as "President Prozac."

A Lubbock, Texas news article, remarked that "Obama appeared to be fatigued and detached" and posited that a combination of both arrogance and medication or drugs had "brought him down." Saturday, an Obama apologist inferred the right-wing had sabotaged the president, asking, "Were medication errors involved in Obama's debate performance? Is a right-leaning MD behind the debacle, maybe?"

Obama has an admitted history of drug abuse and given his bewildering debate performance, speculation may not be so far-fetched; although, any suggestion that Obama might actually employ a right-wing physician should probably be pooh-poohed. Regarding the questions about whether Obama was "simply exhausted" or had "taken some medications or drugs in an attempt to improve his concentration, to boost his confidence, and possibly even to calm his nerves," it's true,"we will probably never know."

In the past, Democrats quickly claimed that Representative Hank Johnson was a victim of medication when he expressed his fears that "Guam would tip over from soldiers' extra weight," if 8000 Marines and their families moved to the island. At this time, neither drugs nor prescription medication has been mentioned by the Obama team as a reason that Mitt Romney reduced Obama to what some consider "mince-meat" in the debate.

While conservatives were pointing to Jim Lehrer's warning, "Mr. President, your time is up," as prophetic, critics were quick to place the blame on Lehrer, who is perhaps the most well-seasoned debate moderator known. They are claiming his hands-off approach failed to allow Obama to shine. To the contrary, the transcript of the debate spotlights several instances when Lehrer attempted to cue the president on his message, even to the point of providing him with actual phrases that Obama could use.

For instance, Lehrer clearly cued the president by saying, "Mr. President, you're saying in order to get it, the job done, it's got to be balanced." Obama responded, "If we're serious, we've got to take a balanced, responsible approach." In this case, Obama basically repeated Lehrer's helpful cue and then continued to expand upon it somewhat.

From this National Public Radio excerpt, it's readily apparent that though Lehrer did try handily to help Obama stay on track; he wasn't always successful. This example shows how Obama failed to focus and missed an opportunity that Lehrer tried so hard to provide him. Instead, Obama merely repeated what Lehrer said and allowed his opportunity to move to Romney:

    "Mr. Lehrer: Mr. President.

President Obama: Well, we've had this discussion before.

Mr. Lehrer: No, about the idea that in order to reduce the deficit there has to be revenue in addition to cuts.

President Obama: There has to be revenue in addition to cuts. Now, Governor Romney has ruled out revenue. He's, he's ruled out revenue."

Obviously, there are no flattering reasons to explain why Obama was soundly trounced. Even for someone who is reaching desperately for a reason to excuse Obama's inability to defend his leadership during his term or to promote his leadership going forward, an evil right-wing doctor is quite a stretch. Drugs, either illegal or medicinal, aren't so easily dismissed.

Comedy star Bill Maher was one of the dismayed Obama donors who suggested the president was, indeed, on drugs, saying with despair, ?He looked tired. He had trouble getting his answers out. It looked like he took my million and spent it all on weed.?

In the meantime, the Obama team is ironically looking to an unlikely savior, Joe Biden, to rescue Obama in this week's debate against his GOP rival, Paul Ryan. Biden is gaffe-prone and not only called "jobs" a three-letter word, he recently claimed the middle class has been "buried" for the past four years." Overnight the presidential debates, once considered almost an after-thought that are seldom political game-changers, have morphed into must-see political events.
